Civil War Sesquicentennial (2011-2015)
Across the United States of America, citizens are gathering to commemorate the 150th anniversary of our country's most destructive conflict and honor the 600,000 individuals who fought brother against brother, neighbor against neighbor during our nations most bloodiest war of our existence...the Civil War.
Contribution to the war: Iowa's contribution towards the Civil War focused on supporting the Union Army, where they provided food and supplies to the troops. Today, Lenox remains a small rural community in southwest Iowa where multicultural families focus on: faith, family, education and tradition.
Civil War Re-enactment: For the next five years, Lenox will be engaged in bringing to life battles, dances, celebrations and monumental moments that are part of our historical past. We welcome all who would like to join in this memorial anniversary. A special thank you to those individuals and groups who have taken the time to teach us more about these historical moments.
